The amount of time swelling persists after a rhinoplasty depends on the extent of surgery that was performed and the techniques used.  If the bones of the nose were broken during surgery (“osteotomies”), swelling and bruising around the eyes may occur and persist for 1-2 weeks.

In general, the majority of the swelling inside of the nose resolves in 3-4 weeks, and most of the outer skin and soft tissue swelling resolves in the first three months.

When considering having a revision, it is best to wait for at least one year after the initial surgery so that nearly all of the swelling is resolved and the surgeon and patient can have an accurate idea of how much of the appearance of the nose needs to be changed.
