Submental Liposuction

Stubborn submental (under the chin) fat can be present due to weight gain or due to genetic factors. Often this stubborn fat pocket does not fully respond to diet and exercise. In addition, with age and weight gain, the jowls can become more full with fat. Submental and jowl liposuction can be performed beneath the skin and above the platysma muscle to remove fat cells permanently. It can also create a more defined and smooth jaw line. Submental and jowl liposuction are done under sedation or general anesthesia and are often combined with a lower face and necklift to enhance overall results.

Recovery usually takes about 1-2 weeks, after which most patients return to work. Bruising and swelling can last 2-4 weeks.
